Ambassador of the MFA: for the stable operation of the agricultural sector, the “Grain Agreement” should be concluded for a year

Negotiations regarding the extension of the “Black Sea Grain Initiative” are currently underway.

One of the biggest challenges of agribusiness is uncertainty regarding the export of goods by sea, experts reported in the podcast of the Center for Economic Strategy.

The “Grain Agreement” expires on March 18, and negotiations on its extension are ongoing.

The parties are working to extend the agreement for 120 days instead of 60, as demanded by Russia.

“Although even 120 days is not enough for Ukrainian farmers to feel predictability in the market,” Olga Trofimtseva, ambassador on special assignment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized in the CES podcast.

According to her, for the stable operation of the agricultural sector, the “Grain Agreement” should be concluded for at least one year.

According to the data of the “Russia will pay” project, whose calculations are carried out by the experts of the CES, losses in agriculture are estimated at $23.3 billion. In particular, losses of enterprises in the occupied territories, reduction of cultivated areas, damage to elevators.
