Agrarians are increasing the acreage for oil crops

In 2023, Ukrainian farmers plan to increase the sown area for oil crops and partially reduce the sown area for grain and corn.

Sown areas for sunflower, soybean and rapeseed will be increased by 10-15%, reports Ukrinform with reference to the speech of Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy Taras Vysotskyi in the telethon “Yedini Novyni”.

“The production of grain crops will decrease, because less winter wheat is sown in autumn due to unfavorable weather factors. Corn sown areas have been reduced by 10-12% due to expensive logistics,” said Vysotskyi.

He noted that in 2023, farmers faced a number of challenges, especially in the de-occupied territories. In particular, the reduction of cultivated areas, mined fields, financial problems, restrictions on sales markets and expensive logistics, because the aggressor country continues to block the full activity of Black Sea ports.

The deputy minister emphasized that the government is doing everything possible to solve these problems.

“The approved program on the continuation of preferential lending for the agricultural sector, the headquarters for humanitarian demining is working, the grain initiative has been extended. “Alternative logistics has also significantly developed – additional road and railway checkpoints have been built,” Vysotskyi said.
