Bulgaria banned the export of fuel from Russian oil

The Parliament of Bulgaria banned the processing of Russian oil. The ban will take effect in January.

From January 1, 2024, Bulgaria will stop exporting fuel produced from Russian oil, BTA reports.

Also, from March 1, the Lukoil plant in Bulgaria will be prohibited from processing Russian oil.

Thus, Bulgaria terminated the exemption from the EU embargo on oil imports from Russia. The European Commission granted this permission to Bulgaria in 2022 due to the specific geographical location of the country. The exclusion for Bulgaria was supposed to be canceled on October 1, 2024.

By December 31, the Bulgarian National Customs Agency must carry out an inventory of warehouses and stocks of fuel and crude oil. Fuel that cannot be sold on the Bulgarian market for environmental reasons will be able to be exported within the framework of the procedure established by the EU regulation.
