CMA CGM introduces additional military fee for cargo transportation in the Black Sea

From November 9, the French shipping company CMA CGM will introduce an additional fee for military risks for container transportation from and to the countries of the Black Sea region.

This is stated in the official message of CMA CGM.

The new fee will be $35 per TEU (equivalent to a 20-foot container). It will apply to all types of cargo transported from the countries of the Black Sea region or in the opposite direction.

At the same time, for shipments involving the United States and its territories, Australia, New Zealand and Latin American countries, where regulatory procedures must be followed, the new tariffs will come into effect on December 1, 2026.

In CMA CGM, the decision was explained by the deterioration of the security situation in the Black Sea in recent months.

In particular, on September 16, the Joint War Committee (JWC) updated the list of high-risk areas, including almost the entire Black Sea water area, with the exception of the territorial waters of Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria and Georgia.

The company noted that the passage of ships through this region is accompanied by additional costs. The introduction of a military levy should ensure the continuity of sea transportation.

CMA CGM’s regional announcement also clarified that the fee will apply to transportation through the company’s own services and third-party feeder lines, in particular to cargo from and to Ukraine transported through the ports of Constanta and Poti.

The carrier continues to monitor the situation in the Black Sea and does not rule out further changes in transportation conditions depending on the development of events.
