Commercial fishing in Ukraine decreased by 70%

In connection with the full-scale aggression of russian federation, industrial fishing in the waters of Ukraine fell by 70% compared to last year.

One of the factors of the sharp drop is the ban on commercial fishing in certain areas of water bodies by border guards, Odesa Military Administration and units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Fisheries Agency reports.

In particular, the navigation of fishing vessels and, accordingly, the fishing of aquatic biological resources are prohibited on a large territory of Ukraine.

Yes, commercial fishing of aquatic biological resources is completely prohibited in the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. A partial ban is in effect in the Kyiv, Odesa and Mykolaiv regions.

At the same time, citizens, commercial fishermen, and specialized associations are contacting the State Fisheries Agency about resolving the catch limitation issue. The ban makes it impossible to meet the needs of the population, creates obstacles for effective business, and causes a reduction in jobs.

Currently, the State Fisheries Agency, together with the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, is working on the issues of a possible increase in the volume of commercial fishing.
