The railway in Moldova can be extended directly to the port of Giurgiuleşti

“Moldova Railways” is considering the possibility of extending the track directly to the territory of the state port of Giurgiuleşti.
This is reported by RAIL.insider RAIL.insider with reference to Calea Ferată din Moldova.
The project should allow loading and unloading cargo directly at the port without intermediate road transportation. CFM expects that this will reduce logistics costs and increase the efficiency of transshipment.
In parallel, at the Prut station, they plan to create a multifunctional logistics complex for transshipment and handling of cargo and better connection of railway and road infrastructure.
CFM is already carrying out work on the railway approaches to Giurgiuleşti. In particular, the Valeni section, the Prut-Felcu connection with Romania, and the overpass bridges at the Cahul, Prut and Iargara stations have been restored.
According to the company, the use of this section has brought more than 20 million Moldovan lei in revenue in the last three months alone.
CFM expects that the development of the line to Giurgiuleşti will strengthen the port’s role as a logistics hub between Moldova, Romania, Ukraine and EU markets.
Russia has previously accused Romania of providing military support to Ukraine through the port of Giurgiuleşti.
