In Mykolaiv, the liquidation of the consequences of the spill of vegetable oil into the Pivdennyi Buh is still ongoing.
As of January 15, 195 tons of water-and-oil emulsion, which entered the river as a result of the Russian attack, have already been pumped out of the water area of the Pivdennyi Buh. This was reported by the press service of the Mykolaiv City Council.
“Work is underway in Mykolaiv to collect the oil mixture from the water area of the Pivdennyi Buh. In total, 195 tons of water-and-oil emulsion have already been pumped out,” the city council said in a statement.
The affected enterprise is currently cleaning up the water area itself. According to representatives of the city council, about 80 square meters remain to be cleaned in the area of the estuary bay.
The cleaning work will continue until the consequences of the environmental disaster are completely eliminated.
We will remind you that on the night of December 28, a tank with vegetable oil at an agro-industrial enterprise was damaged as a result of the fall of Russian drones in Mykolaiv.
1,800 tons of sunflower oil leaked from the tank. At that time, environmentalists recorded an oil stain on an area of 1,000 sq. m with a layer of about 1 cm. Already on January 2, the area of contamination increased to 9,000 sq. m, and the thickness of the layer in some areas reached 10 cm.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine noted that the estimated amount of damage is 45 billion UAH.
