Drones attacked the sanctioned Russian ship “Lady Mariia” in the Mediterranean Sea

The Russian roll-on roll-off ship “Lady Mariia”, which is under US and Ukrainian sanctions, was attacked by drones in the Mediterranean Sea on September 6.
This was reported by Andriy Klymenko, head of the Institute for Black Sea Strategic Studies.
According to preliminary data, the ship was attacked near Crete when it was heading towards Syria. After the strike, a fire broke out on board.
Lady Mariia is a Ro-Ro ship under the Russian flag with a deadweight of 7.18 thousand tons. Its registered owner is the Russian company MG-Flot.
According to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the ship was used to transport weapons from Syria to Russia and operated on the Novorossiysk – Tartus route.
The owner company and its ships have been under US sanctions since 2022. In May 2026, Ukraine also imposed sanctions against Lady Mariia for a period of 10 years.
Klymenko said the attack was carried out by “unknown drones.”
Earlier, USM reported that Zelenskyy had imposed sanctions on 29 ships carrying weapons for Russia. Among them was the Lady Mariia.
