Freight from Danube ports of Ukraine to Egypt increased to $100 per ton

The freight market of the Black Sea and Danube remains tense due to security risks and disruptions in shipping through the Sulin Canal.

New attacks on merchant ships and weather restrictions complicate the planning of voyages, and shipowners maintain strict conditions for transportation from Ukrainian Danube ports. This is reported by ASAP Agri.

According to analysts, the activity of concluding new freight agreements remains low, which makes it difficult to determine current rates. At the same time, shipowners ready to call at Ukrainian ports on the Danube insist on their terms, maintaining upward pressure on freight.

Thus, as of mid-October 2026, the rate for the transportation of corn by small vessels from the Danube ports of Ukraine to Egypt was about $ 100 per ton. For comparison, in July this figure was at the level of about $ 30 per ton. At the same time, the freight of Handysize class vessels from the port of Yuzhny to Egypt remained significantly lower – about $ 20-22 per ton.

In the barge segment, despite the resumption of navigation in the area of the 280th kilometer of the Danube, draft restrictions remain. They reduce the possibilities of loading barges and reduce the availability of free tonnage, strengthening the positions of shipowners when agreeing on new voyages.
