Freight rates for grain transportation have stabilized

Black Sea freight rates for vessels in the “handysize” and “coaster” segments have stabilized.

Freight rates for ships transporting grain from the ports of Ukraine have stabilized. However, demand remains limited and the number of open vessels is large. This was reported in UGA with reference to ASAP data.

Shipowners are increasingly turning down orders rather than accepting extremely low offers from charterers. Moreover, shipowners’ incomes from transportation from Ukrainian ports are often on par with those they receive when working from foreign ports. Therefore, charterers can no longer continue to undercut rates.

The freight of “handy sizes” with corn from the ports of Great Odesa to the Eastern Mediterranean stabilized at the level of 19-21 USD/t. Freight rates for transporting the same lot to the east coast of Italy and to Spain are 21-23 USD/t and 23-24 USD/t, respectively. Ship freight with grain to Tunisia is also fixed at 23-24 USD/t.

The freight rates of “coasters” with corn from the Danube ports to Marmara stabilized at the level of 16-17 USD/t, to the eastern coast of Greece – at the level of 19-21 USD/t. To the Eastern Mediterranean, the rates were fixed at the level of 21-23 USD/t. The cost of transporting cargo to Israel is 25-26 USD/t. In the direction of the ports of the east coast of Italy and Spain, freight rates stabilized at the level of 24-26 USD/t and 29-30 USD/t, respectively.

Barge freight rates with corn to Constanta are kept within 9-10 EUR/t. The cost of sunflower delivery to the Bulgarian ports of Ruse/Silistra is 15 EUR/t.
