Freight rates on the Danube fell significantly
During the first week of April, freight rates for the transportation of grain by barges from the Danube ports decreased significantly.
As of April 4, rates for the transportation of 6,000 tons of corn by fire from Reni and Izmail fell significantly. UGA writes about this with reference to Atria Brokers.
Thus, the cost of grain transportation by main directions was distributed as follows:
• freight rates in the direction of Spain decreased by 7-8 USD/t — to 37-39 USD/t;
• to the east coast of Italy — by 7 USD/t to 33-35 USD/t;
• in the direction of Israel — by 5-6 USD/t to 35-37 USD/t;
• to the Eastern Mediterranean — by 6 USD/t to 29-31 USD/t;
• to the eastern coast of Greece — by 3-4 USD/t to 27-28 USD/t;
• in the direction of Marmara — by 2 USD/t to 24-25 USD/t.
The decrease in rates is explained by the beginning of the off-season and the decrease in demand for grain transportation.
In the segment of “handy sizes” in the ports of Great Odesa, the minimum rates to the Mediterranean coast of Egypt fell by 1 USD/t and are 28-30 USD/t. At the same time, the maximum rates to Italy and Spain increased by USD 1/t — to USD 31-33/t and USD 33-35/t, respectively.
Freight rates for the transportation of corn by “Panamax” from the deep-sea ports of Odesa region to China remained at the level of 60-62 USD/t.
The cost of transporting corn by barge to Constanta is 10-11 EUR/t. Barge freight rates for sunflower transportation to the ports of Ruse/Silistra are at the level of 16-17 EUR/t.
