Handysize freight rates continue to fall

Freight rates for the transportation of grain from Ukrainian ports in the segment of “coaster” and “panamax” remain unchanged.

Due to the lack of demand, shipowners make concessions in the chartering of “handy sizes” and barges. UGA  writes about this with reference to the ASAP company.

Thus, in the “handy sizes” segment, the cost of transporting corn from Great Odesa to the Eastern Mediterranean fell by another USD 1/t — to USD 22-23/t. Freight rates to Spain and the east coast of Italy also decreased by USD 1/t — to USD 25-26/t and USD 24-25/t, respectively. Freight rates to Tunisia remained at the level of 33-34 USD/t.

Barge freight rates with corn to Constanta fell by 0.5 EUR/t — to 9-10 EUR/t. The same negative dynamics is observed in sunflower shipments – barge freight to the Bulgarian ports of Ruse and Silistra has fallen in price to EUR 15/t.
