In Italy, the MSC ship was arrested, which was transporting Russian drones to Libya

Italian authorities have seized a vessel believed to be carrying Russian arms for Khalifa Haftar to Libya.

It should be noted that Khalifa Haftar is the commander-in-chief of the Libyan National Army, who is one of the key figures in the second civil war in Libya. He had previously received military support from other countries, in particular from Russia.

This operation was carried out by Italian law enforcement officers at the request of the US government. Millions of dollars worth of weapons were seized from a ship bound for the city of Benghazi in Libya, the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera reported, Anadolu writes. It is worth noting that the export of military equipment to Libya violates UN sanctions.

American intelligence officials also suspect that the Kremlin wants to build its military port in Tobruk, which is controlled by Haftar in Libya.

According to Corriere della Sera, the military cargo was stored on the ship MSC Arina, which left China on April 30. However, when asked by the publication, the MSC company said that it did not know anything about the confiscation of containers.

It is also currently unknown exactly what kind of weapons were on board the ship, but journalists assume that they were Russian drones.

Previously, USM had already reported on cooperation between the Russian Federation and Libya. In particular, this month Russia sent its ships to the Libyan port of Tobruk.
