The aggressor country built a “new” ship at the Vympel shipyard in the city of Rybinsk.

The Russians launched a new project 12418 “Molniya” missile boat. The ship was named “Stupynets”,”Militarnyi”reports.

The boat was developed by the Almaz Design Bureau (St. Petersburg). The new ship is a modified version of project 12418 used by the Navy of Turkmenistan and Vietnam.

Thus, the missile boats of the Navy of Vietnam and the Navy of Turkmenistan each have 16 anti-ship missile launchers, while the Russian version has only 8. Also, on the Russian boat, the launchers are placed perpendicular to the hull, due to which the architecture of the ship has also been slightly changed.

These missile complexes are armed with Kh-35 anti-ship missiles. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Russia has used them, in particular, during the shelling of Ukrainian cities.

The hull for the Stupynets missile boat was laid at the Rybinsk plant back in 1991-1992. The Russians planned to build at least two such ships under the export project 12421. However, due to the fact that the customer was never found, the construction was “frozen” for more than 20 years.

In 2016, the Kremlin decided to complete the construction of ships according to an updated project for the needs of the Russian Navy. They wanted to put them into service in 2018, but as of 2019, they had not done so, so construction actually stopped.

In 2020, it became known that the boats were not completed due to the lack of M-507A diesel engines. At the same time, forecasts were made regarding the launching of ships in 2022-2023. Even those deadlines were not realized, so the launch of the first boat took place only in the second half of 2024.
