Minister of Agricultural Policy Vitalii Koval discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation with his Portuguese counterpart.

Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Vitaliy Koval held an online meeting with the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Portuguese Republic José Manuel Fernandes, the ministry’s press service reported.

The parties discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector.

Vitaliy Koval emphasized that despite the fact that part of the agricultural land is temporarily occupied by the enemy, last year Ukraine demonstrated good results in the agricultural sector.

“In 2024, 57% of Ukraine’s agricultural exports went to EU countries. In total, Ukraine exported agricultural products worth $24.6 billion. In particular, $211.6 million to Portugal,” the minister said.

According to him, in 2024, Ukraine returned to its historical paths of agricultural exports. Thus, 86% of agricultural products are exported through the Odesa and Danube ports.

“Ukraine is actively working to open new markets. In particular, in African and Middle Eastern countries,” said Vitalii Koval.

The Minister also emphasized that Russia continues to trade stolen Ukrainian grain. He reported that Ukraine, together with Lithuania and the United Kingdom, launched a pilot project on the Lithuanian border to test the origin of grain.

It should be noted that Portugal consistently supports Ukraine, in particular the Grain From Ukraine initiative. The Minister also invited Portuguese business to cooperate. First of all, in the field of deep agroprocessing and production of value-added products.
