Nibulon will build five coast guard ships in cooperation with France

Five coast guard ships will be built in Mykolaiv together with France.

The Ukrainian company Nibulon has signed a production contract with the French shipbuilding company OCEA. As a result of the agreement, this will allow Ukraine to create five coast guard ships for the State Border Service.

The ships will be built in Mykolaiv at the Nibulon shipyard within the framework of the agreement signed in 2019. In general, it provides for loans by the French government and European banks for the construction of French ships in the amount of 136.5 million euros with the localization of a part of production in Ukraine.

As USM previously reported, Ukraine and France have signed a contract for 20 patrol vessels. Another 15 ships are being built in France. The first ship will be delivered to Ukraine in the spring of 2022.

“I am convinced that this is a really big event, towards which Ukraine has been moving for almost 3 years. Starting with the intergovernmental framework agreement between Ukraine and France in Paris in 2019, the ratification of the intergovernmental agreement in 2020, the agreement of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Revenue Service with OCEA in 2020, a memorandum between OCEA and our company, as well as numerous diplomatic negotiations – and high-speed patrol boats ending today at Ukrainian plant,” – said the Head of Nibulon Oleksiy Vadatursky.

Reference. The FPB 98 MKI is a maneuverable patrol boat with a length of 30 meters. The maximum speed is 55 km/h. Each ship will be equipped with modern optoelectronic surveillance systems, RIB boats for survey groups of coastguards, and modern weapons.

The boats will be used to guard the state border on the water, observation, surveillance and control operations, search and rescue operations and counter sabotage and reconnaissance groups.
