Norway will allocate 1.2 billion Norwegian kroner for naval drones for Ukraine

The Norwegian government will allocate 1.2 billion Norwegian kroner under the Ukraine Support Program for the development and procurement of naval drones for Ukraine in 2026.

This was reported on the website of the Norwegian government.

On Tuesday, June 9, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during the Nordic-Baltic Cooperation (NB8) Prime Ministers’ Summit in Tallinn.

“Norway is a world leader in the maritime sector. I am glad that our experience can also be used to support Ukraine’s fight for freedom. Ukraine uses naval drones for reconnaissance and military offensive operations, as well as to protect against Russian attacks,” the Norwegian Prime Minister said.

In particular, he recalled that Norway and the United Kingdom have been leading the Coalition of Naval Forces in Support of Ukraine since 2023.

“To expand Norway’s support for these efforts, the government has decided to allocate NOK 1.2 billion under the Nansen Ukraine Support Programme for the development and procurement of vessels in 2026, to be supplied by both Norwegian and Ukrainian industry,” Jonas Gar Stere added.

The goal is to deliver the 200th vessel by the end of the year. The vessels will be supplied in various configurations and can, among other things, be equipped with sensors, weapons or aerial drones.
