Russia is suspected of developing a system for covertly launching nuclear missiles from the seabed

Western intelligence agencies are monitoring Russian ships and submarines that may be involved in the implementation of the secret project “Skif”.
Russia may be implementing a secret military project to place ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads on the seabed. This is stated in the investigation of the German broadcasters WDR and NDR.
According to journalists, the intelligence services of NATO countries have been paying special attention to the Russian ship “Zvezdochka”, which is based in Severodvinsk, for a long time. The intelligence services believe that the ship may be connected to the secret military project “Skif”. The ship “Sarov” is also suspected of this activity.
The material notes that this is about the possible placement of nuclear missiles in special containers or mines at a depth of several hundred meters underwater. According to the authors of the investigation, Russia could have been working on such technology for many years.
If such a system were implemented, NATO would face serious difficulties in detecting and destroying hidden launchers placed on the seabed.
Journalists also report that the project could have created the Skif missile of the same name – a modified version of the R-29RMU Sineva ballistic missile, which is used by Russian strategic submarines.
According to NATO, such missiles can be launched from sea platforms and have a flight range of several thousand kilometers. The first tests of the system, as claimed in the investigation, could have taken place several years ago.
USM also previously reported that Russian submarines were conducting a secret operation in the Atlantic near Britain.
