Russian tankers under sanctions use fake insurance

The sanctioned tanker Paz received an insurance certificate from the German company Seaguard P&I, which does not actually exist.

This was reported by Bloomberg, citing data from the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine.

The Paz vessel, which is under sanctions by the US, UK and EU, used documents from a company allegedly registered in Pinneburg, Germany.

At the same time, an ordinary residential building is located at the specified address, and the company itself is not registered as a commercial entity in Germany.

It is noted that tankers of the shadow fleet of the Russian Federation use similar schemes to circumvent sanctions when transporting oil. In addition to the Paz, at least four more vessels received fake insurance certificates, including the tanker Deyna. In March 2026, it was arrested by French authorities on suspicion of evading sanctions.

Earlier, the Czech Republic imposed sanctions against a Russian who insured tankers of the “shadow fleet” of the Russian Federation.
