Seafarers should be provided with free repatriation in case of war

The MTWTU has sent advices to the IMO on the treatment of seafarers if their country is at war.

One of the proposals of the trade union is the right of the seafarer to repatriation at the expense of the shipowner. This works in the case where the ship is bound for a port of a state at war with the seafarer’s state of nationality.

In addition, the document contains recommendations to prevent any discrimination against seafarers based on their nationality or citizenship in ports of call.
