The new package of EU sanctions will be directed against LNG and the tanker fleet of the Russian Federation

In January, EU countries will start developing the 15th package of sanctions against Russia. Restrictions on Russian LNG and sanctions against the tanker fleet are expected to increase. Politico writes about it.

Sources of the publication noted that in the 15th package, the European Commission will try to further limit the ability of EU countries to import Russian CNG, the purchases of which in 2024 began to grow rapidly again in anticipation of new sanctions restrictions that will hit the EU energy industry.

In addition, Brussels “intends to strengthen sanctions against the tanker fleet”, which allegedly transports Russian oil, which is traded on the world market at market prices, despite the attempt of Western countries to establish “ceilings” of prices for Russian oil and oil products.

In January, the presidency of the EU will pass “to one of the most active supporters of Ukraine – Poland.” It is likely that this will accelerate the process of adopting new sanctions against the Russian Federation.

Recently, USM reported that EU countries demanded from the European Commission to strengthen the rules for the import of LNG from Russia.
