The transit of grain from Ukraine through the port of Constanta has decreased
In January, the transit of Ukrainian grain through the Romanian port of Constanta decreased by almost 40%.
The administration of the port of Constanta reported that shipments of Ukrainian grain from the port decreased by 38% in January. This indicates Ukraine’s more active use of its own ports, writes Hellenic Shipping News.
In January, 436,000 tons of Ukrainian grain transited through the port, compared to 700,000 tons in the same month last year.
Romanian traders are worried that the established export routes will be lost. At the same time, market analysts believe that transit volumes will recover in the spring.
Cesar Gheorghe from the Romanian grain market consulting company AGRIColumn explained that there is currently a lull in the market, as Ukrainian farmers are restraining the sale of grain at the current low prices, but exports should resume in March-April.
As previously reported by USM, transshipment at the port of Constanta increased by 22.5% to a record 92.5 million tons in 2023.
