The UDS sea vessel is preparing for its first voyage


The sea dry cargo ship “Vilkovo”, which belongs to the “Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company, is undergoing final tests and is preparing for its first voyage.

For many years, the dry cargo was in a bareboat charter, the UDS reminded. According to the acting the general director of the company Dmytro Moskalenko, the previous management returned the ship in a “terrible technical condition”.

In three months, it was possible to restore the ship and carry out almost a major overhaul. In particular, on the ship:

• Dozens of tons of metal were replaced – hull structures, decks, bulkheads and much more.

• Body cleaned and painted in three layers (primer + 2 layers of paint).

• Painted the surfaces of holds and decks on an area of almost 10,000 square meters.

• For the first time in 30 years, cargo hold covers and some other systems and units were completely dismantled and restored.

• The hydraulic system for opening the lids has been replaced.

• Fully overhauled propeller-rudder complex.

• Complete overhaul of the main engine, diesel generators, compressors. Replaced and adjusted fuel equipment.

• Replaced a huge range of spare parts: some of the units were made to order.

• Many units have been replaced with new ones in order not to invest in repairs in the future.

Currently, the ship is completing the procedures of testing for the Register class, after which “Vilkovo” will start its first voyage.
