The Ukrainian railway is being integrated into the EU

The Ministry of Reconstruction of Ukraine signed a Memorandum with the European Railway Agency (ERA) on the technical harmonization of railway systems.

The Ministry of Reconstruction and the ERA signed a memorandum providing for cooperation in the field of technical harmonization of the railway systems of the EU and Ukraine. This was reported in the press service of the Ukrainian agency.

Among other things, ERA will provide expert and technical support for the inclusion of Ukraine in the single European railway space. The parties also undertook to prepare standards and legislation in the field of railway safety and railway interoperability.

According to the Memorandum, the EU will establish a steering committee that will define priorities and step-by-step plans to achieve common goals.

“The development of Ukrainian railways is one of the prerequisites for full transport integration into the EU. In fact, the integration of Ukrainian railways is one of the biggest blocks of transport European integration of Ukraine,” commented Deputy Minister of Reconstruction Serhiy Derkach.
