The UN Secretary General has already arrived in Ukraine to discuss the Grain Initiative
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres is already in Ukraine. Today, March 8, he will meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Guterres will meet with Zelensky to “discuss the continuation of the Black Sea Grain Initiative in all its aspects, as well as other important issues,” the UN press service reports.
“This is the third visit of the Secretary General to Ukraine in the last year. Mr. Guterres will return to the UN headquarters in New York on Thursday afternoon,” the press service said.
It will be recalled that the agreement concluded through the mediation of the UN and Turkey should be extended this month. Ukraine stated that it would seek to extend the agreement for a longer period of time – up to a year – for better forward-looking planning, and would also like the port of Mykolaiv to be included in it. Russia, however, has made it clear that it is unhappy with some aspects of the agreement.
Earlier, Ukraine appealed to the UN and Turkey because of the fact that russia is sabotaging the “grain corridor”.
