The USA imposed sanctions against the Russian “Sovcomflot”
Russia’s “Sovcomflot” and 14 tankers associated with the company were on the US sanctions list.
In this way, Washington is trying to further suppress Moscow’s attempts to circumvent price restrictions on crude oil exports, writes Splash 24/7.
The US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has also issued a license to unload crude oil or other cargo from these vessels for 45 days and allows operations with all other “Sovcomflot” (SCF) vessels for this time.
The latest OFAC report says that the tightening of sanctions in recent months is forcing Russia to sell oil at a significant discount to the international benchmark Brent. Over the past month, the discount has increased to about $19 a barrel, compared to $12-13 a barrel in October.
“Today we take the next step by targeting Russia’s largest state-owned shipping company and fleet operator, dealing a massive blow to their shadow operations,” US Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo said.
As previously reported by USM, the American company Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry recently removed all “Sovcomflot” vessels from the Liberian International Ship and Corporate Registry.
It is also known that since the beginning of January, about 50 Russian SCF tankers, previously registered in Liberia, have massively changed their flag to Gabon.
