Timber smuggling channel exposed in the port of Odesa region

The Security Service of Ukraine has blocked an illegal timber export mechanism. The next cargo was planned to be shipped through one of the ports of Big Odesa.

According to preliminary data, since the beginning of the year, attackers managed to ship overseas timber and wood products in the amount of more than UAH 2 million (USD 73.04 thousand).

During the inspection of the cargo, which they tried to export through one of the ports of Big Odessa, law enforcement officers found another batch of pine wood products, the declared characteristics of which did not meet the accompanying documents.

During searches in the premises of the woodworking workshops, the suspect seized evidence: wood without supporting documents, rough notes and bank cards.

The dealer will be charged with suspicion under Art. 201-1 (movement across the border of Ukraine outside the customs control of valuable and rare tree species) of the Criminal Code.
