Trump administration urges Ukraine not to attack non-Russian ships in the Black Sea, media reports

The White House has urged Ukraine not to attack non-Russian vessels in the Black Sea after a tanker chartered by the American company Chevron was hit.

This is reported by hromadske with reference to The Wall Street Journal.

Chevron owns a share of the CPC oil pipeline that passes through the Russian port of Novorossiysk.

Analysts quoted by the WSJ said that if Ukraine continues to attack the export capabilities of the port in Novorossiysk, Chevron will also be forced to reduce production at Tengiz, as the port lacks significant oil storage capacity.

According to WSJ sources, Chevron CEO Mike Wirth recently met with representatives of the administration of US President Donald Trump and discussed the situation in the Black Sea and the protection of its interests in this region.

Following these discussions, the Trump administration warned Ukraine against attacks on non-Russian vessels in the Black Sea.

“The administration sees the CPC as a vital conduit for Kazakh-origin energy to European markets, serving as an alternative to Russian energy supplies,” the WSJ source said.

Earlier, USM reported that Russia had restricted nighttime vessel traffic in the port of Novorossiysk due to drone attacks.
