Turkey proposes to create two safe corridors for ships in the Black Sea

Turkey is discussing the creation of two separate safe routes in the Black Sea – for ships heading to Ukraine and Russia.

Yeni Şafak writes this against the backdrop of statements by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan about the deterioration of the security of commercial shipping.

According to the publication, both sides could undertake not to attack ships moving along certain routes. The previous grain corridor mechanism is cited as an example.

Fidan said that the war in the Black Sea is entering a “life or death” phase, and attacks are increasingly affecting civilian merchant ships, including Turkish ones.

According to him, Ankara has already prepared a number of measures in response to the growing risks and has submitted them to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Earlier, Turkey temporarily detained some ships heading to Ukrainian and Russian ports. According to Yeni Şafak, some of them could not pass through the straits for almost a week, but later traffic returned to normal.
