UDS fleet reduced fuel consumption by 5-10%

The fleet of PJSC “Ukrainian Danube Shipping” reduced fuel consumption by an average of 5-10%.

Currently, 60% of UDS self-propelled vessels are equipped with a fuel consumption monitoring system, the company reported .

The equipment is certified by the Register of Shipping. The flow meter does not change the design of the engine, does not affect its operation. The fuel passes through a fine filter on the engine before entering the flow meter.

Flowmeters work with an error of only 0.4% on main engines, and on diesel generators the error is practically absent.

The process of equipping all UDS vessels with the system is not yet complete, because the setup requires a lot of time and effort. Each of the ship’s engines has undergone dozens of repairs using different spare parts, so the installation process requires adaptation to the specific configuration of the engine compartment.

The investment in the installation of flow meters has already paid off. Equipment with fuel has become almost impossible, because the company can see where and when any unauthorized operation took place. Even in 2021, cases were recorded when, with a standard of 50 tons of fuel per flight, the crew burned 80 tons.

Thanks to the data of the flowmeters, some norms of fuel consumption have already been changed.

According to the calculations, on average, the costs of the fleet for the performance of voyage tasks decreased by 5-10%. This is hundreds of tons of fuel every month that used to be lost.

USM previously reported that the UDS introduced new fuel consumption standards for port tugs. Ship trials lasted more than a month. Fuel consumption was measured instrumentally and online using the fuel consumption and vessel location accounting system
