UDS has started repairing its first sea vessel

“Ukrainian Danube Shipping” has started the restoration of the “river-sea” fleet. The dry cargo vessel “Vilkovo” will be the first to be repaired.

The vessel has been on charter since March 2017, the company’s press service noted. The UDS says that the net income of shipping for six years of leasing the vessel did not cover even the cost of its restoration.

“Vilkovo” has already started dock repairs. The ballast water treatment system will be updated in accordance with international requirements and a large amount of other works will be carried out,” the UDS noted.

Repairs are planned to be carried out in a short period of time, so that the ship will start working in the summer of 2023.

Motor ship “Vilkovo” is the fifth of a series of ships built to order of UDS at the Portuguese shipyard Viana do Castelo (project R-845, type “Izmail”: a total of 6 ships of the series were built). This is a universal dry cargo vessel, designed for the transportation of general, bulk cargoes of various nomenclature, grain, containers.

In December 2008, the ship was arrested in the port of Psakhna (Greece) for many years of debts to local companies. Released in March 2010.
