Work on the modernization of the first UDS vessel at the Austrian shipyard ÖSWAG is progressing according to schedule.

The superstructure has already been dismantled on the ship “Captain Antipov”, the press service of the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company reported.

“Technical openings for dismantling the old engine and diesel generators are being prepared. The units have already been partially disassembled by Ukrainian specialists who work on the ship. After the dismantling of the equipment, the relocation of communications and the preparation of the foundation for the installation of new main engines and generators will begin,” the message reads.

New modern units are lighter than old ones. But the lack of weight is partially compensated by the exhaust gas neutralization system with the AdBlue reagent, as well as a new, more powerful ventilation system.

It should be noted that the Mitsubishi engines purchased for steamships are specially modified and fully comply with the new European ES-TRIN standard. In this way, the modernized UDS fleet will be able to work not only on the Danube, but also in the future under certain conditions on other European markets.

As a reminder, in 2024, the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company plans to modernize the first five vessels at the Austrian shipyard ÖSWAG.
