Ukraine and Moldova will simplify rail transit to the Danube ports

Ukraine and Moldova have agreed on non-stop rail transit across the border to the Danube ports.

According to the new rules, the transit of freight trains between the checkpoints “Fricacei – Etulia” and “Reni – Giurgiulesti” will be carried out without stops. The introduction of non-stop traffic in both directions will speed up and increase the volume of transportation in the Danube region. This was announced on the Facebook page of the Ministry of Reconstruction of Ukraine.

“These are important changes for the further development of the entire Danube port cluster. At the same time, we are focusing our efforts on the development of infrastructure in the Izmail and Reni seaports to expand the cargo nomenclature,” the message reads.

Last year, Ukraine transported more than 16 million tons of cargo through the Danube ports — three times more than in the pre-war period. This year, they plan to continue to increase the volume of transportation across the Danube.

USM recently wrote that the Danube ports need more than 120 million dollars of investment.
