Ukraine and Turkey agreed to work on a “grain corridor” in the Black Sea

The Presidents of Ukraine and Turkey discussed the restoration of safe navigation in the Black Sea and agreed to work on ensuring the effective operation of the “grain corridor”.
This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy following his meeting with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul on October 31.
According to Zelensky, a significant part of the negotiations was devoted to security in the Black Sea, in particular the protection of merchant shipping and ensuring food security.
“Today, we agreed with the President to work on the Black Sea “grain corridor” so that the corridor exists and is effective,” Zelenskyy said.
He also noted that Turkey supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine and efforts to restore safe navigation in the Black Sea region.
In turn, Erdogan stressed the inadmissibility of attacks on civilian vessels, regardless of who carries them out. According to the Turkish president, Ankara will continue negotiations with the parties to restore the safety of navigation in the Black Sea.
Erdogan also announced his intention to discuss this issue with Russia in order to facilitate the further negotiation process.
In addition, the presidents discussed preparations for a trilateral format of negotiations involving Ukraine, the United States and Russia in the first half of November. Among the possible options, the involvement of Turkey and European partners is being considered.
Specific terms and mechanisms for implementing the agreements on the “grain corridor” have not yet been announced.
Earlier, USM reported that Turkey has intensified negotiations with Ukraine and Russia on the creation of a new security mechanism in the Black Sea, which could ensure the protection of merchant ships and the restoration of stable food transportation.
