Ukraine asks Slovakia to reduce the cost of transit of agricultural products

Ukraine has proposed to Slovakia to reduce the cost of transit of agricultural products against the backdrop of restrictions on sea exports and the high cost of alternative logistics.

This was reported by the Ministry of Agrian Policy.

The issue was discussed by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Taras Vysotskyi and the Ambassador of Slovakia to Ukraine Pavel Vizdal.

According to Vysotsky, the transit of Ukrainian agricultural products through Slovakia is showing positive dynamics, however, the delivery of goods to the ports of Italy, Croatia and Germany requires additional costs of almost €50 per ton.

The Ukrainian side proposed to reduce the cost of transit, in particular through preferential tariffs and attracting international financial support.

Vysotsky noted that alternative routes currently allow exporting only about half of the required volume of agricultural products.

Separately, the parties discussed Slovakia’s current restrictions on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products. These include 10 commodity items, including grains, oilseeds, honey and sugar.

Following preliminary consultations, Bratislava has already removed four items from the list of prohibited imports. Ukraine insists on further lifting of restrictions.

Earlier, the leader of the French National Rally, Marine Le Pen, stated that Ukraine’s accession to the European Union could increase competition for French farmers and reduce their share of funding within the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy.
