Ukraine exported about 6 million tons of agricultural products by sea in May
With a large number of free vessels, the rates for the transportation of goods from the ports of Great Odesa and the Danube have stabilized.
In May, 5.1 million tons of grain, oil and processed products were exported from the ports of Greater Odessa. 803,000 tons were shipped via the Danube, Spike Brokers writes.
It was expected that the off-season and the large number of available vessels would contribute to further reductions in water freight rates. However, shipowners refuse low tariffs and choose wait-and-see tactics, which has led to the stabilization of tariffs for water transport.
Market rates for transportation of agricultural products from river ports:
• Izmail — Constanta (1-3 thousand tons) — 9-10 euros;
• Izmail — Ruse/Silistra (1-3 thousand tons) — 15 euros;
• Izmail — ports of Israel (5-7 thousand tons) — 25-26 dollars;
• Reni — Marmara (5-7 thousand tons) — 16-17 dollars.
Market rates for transportation from the Chornomorsk seaport to the Eastern Mediterranean (30-35 thousand tons) are 21-23 dollars; in the direction of China (60-65 thousand tons) — 54-56 dollars. The cost of transportation to Bangladesh (60-65 thousand tons) is 55-56 dollars.
As previously reported by USM, shipowners are increasingly turning down orders rather than accepting extremely low offers from charterers. Moreover, shipowners’ incomes from carrying out transportation from Ukrainian ports are often on a par with those they support by working from foreign ports. Therefore, charterers can no longer continue to undercut rates.
