Ukraine provided more than 85% of sunflower imports to the EU

In just four months, Ukraine supplied more than 85% of all sunflower supplies to the EU. Also, our state remains the main supplier of sunflower processing products to the European market.

Since the beginning of the current financial year (from July 1 to October 30), EU countries imported almost 1 million tons of sunflower seeds, which is 7.5 times more than in the same period last season (126 thousand tons), reports “APK Inform” with reference for the assessment of the European Commission.

In particular, last week the EU countries imported 55,500 tons of oil (+10,000 tons per week). The main volumes of sunflower were supplied to Romania (20.6 thousand tons), Bulgaria (20.4 thousand tons) and Hungary (9.2 thousand tons).

It is worth noting that more than 85% of all sunflower supplies in the EU this season were provided by Ukraine (818.9 thousand tons). Another 85,000 tons were delivered from Moldova, 15,000 tons from Serbia, 11,000 tons from Argentina, and 9,000 tons from China.

Also, the import of sunflower processing products increased in 2022/23 MR. In particular, purchases of meal for 4 months of the season amount to 774.4 thousand tons (+51% on the year), sunflower oil — 559.5 thousand tons (+1%). At the same time, Ukraine remains the main supplier of these products to the European market, with a share of 46% in the supply of meal and 88% in oil.
