Vessel carrying first cargo of sanctioned Russian LNG this year heads to India

India will soon receive its first shipment of sanctioned Russian liquefied natural gas this year.

The ship is heading to India from Russia’s sanctioned “Portovaya” terminal in the Baltic Sea, Reuters reported.

If the cargo arrives at its destination, it will be the first shipment of Russian LNG since 2025, when US President Donald Trump said he had agreed with Prime Minister Modi to end purchases of Russian energy resources.

Russia has so far supplied LNG only to China. India’s likely purchase opens up a second market for Russia.

Earlier, USM reported that India had resumed imports of Iranian oil for the first time since 2019.
