Ukraine is preparing a ban on imports from Moldova — Taras Kachka

The government of Ukraine is preparing a resolution to ban imports from Moldova, in response to restrictions against Ukrainian agricultural exports.

“We have informed Chisinau that any restriction on the part of Moldova will be considered an extremely unfriendly step and will entail an immediate ban on all imports from Moldova,” Taras Kachka, trade representative of Ukraine, told “European Pravda”.

According to him, the introduction of such a ban has already been agreed upon and preparations are underway.

We will remind, on Saturday, May 6, the Ministry of Agriculture of Moldova announced that it plans to join the EU decision on the implementation of a temporary ban on the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower from Ukraine. At the same time, transit will not be prohibited.

According to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry of the Republic of Moldova, Volodymyr Boli, there is a significant amount of grain in Moldovan warehouses, “and this causes farmers to fear that they will not have enough space for the new harvest.”

However, the Minister of Agricultural Policy of Ukraine Mykola Solsky noted that the grounds for such a decision are unclear, since Ukraine does not export these crops to the Republic of Moldova.
