The UZ commented on the searches by NABU in the procurement case
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine is conducting searches at Ukrzaliznytsia, which are related to purchases for the needs of the industry.
In particular, law enforcement officers were given access to the home and work premises of the company’s employees. This is stipulated by the court decision as part of the investigation related to the activities of the “Production Support Center” branch of the UZ, the company reported.
“I emphasize once again that among my primary tasks as the head of Ukrzaliznytsia is overcoming corruption schemes. Today, I personally provided all clarifications to NABU regarding possible procurement abuses. Although procurement audits are carried out for the period when they were not part of my area of responsibility. We are open to any inspections, ready to facilitate investigative actions and support a transparent and impartial investigation of all possible abuses in the company,” said the Chairman of the Board of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” Yevhen Lyashchenko.
The board of directors stated that after the appointment of Yevhen Lyashchenko as the chairman of the board, the company strengthened its cooperation with law enforcement agencies, in particular with NABU, SBU, National Police, Prosecutor’s Office and SAP. In addition, the company began to conduct a number of its own official investigations – this year, about 20 cases have already been transferred to law enforcement agencies.
Ukrzaliznytsia also made a number of personnel and administrative decisions, which will be announced later.
Previously, NABU and SAP exposed a bribery scheme by an official of “Ukrzaliznytsia” for assistance in concluding contracts with “necessary suppliers” for the needs of the railway. For his “services”, he received a new Toyota Camry car for UAH 1.55 million. On May 22, 2023, law enforcement officers detained two members of a group that provided an illegal benefit to an official. The next day, the deputy director of the “TsZV” branch of the UZ was detained.
