Ukraine has alternative export strategies in case of termination of the Grain Agreement
The government and grain market participants have developed a number of alternative grain export strategies in the event of termination of the Grain Agreement.
“We have several strategies: expanding the carrying capacity of the Danube region and increasing grain transshipment opportunities there. The commissioning of additional transit points and dry ports on the western border with Poland and Romania is also underway,” said First Deputy Minister of Agricultural Policy Taras Vysotskyi.
Vysotsky reminded that the state budget for 2023 provides 20 billion UAH for the potential insurance of ships with Ukrainian grain, which will be ready to continue their work in the absence of a “grain corridor”.
“Alternative measures are being actively developed, they are actually finalized and should help Ukraine to continuously contribute to international food security and ensure exports,” he emphasized.
The First Deputy Minister expressed his hope that, despite all the difficulties with exports, the financial indicators of the export of agricultural products will be close to last year’s.
We will remind you that currently many market participants are creating logistics infrastructure on the Danube due to insufficient capacities for grain storage and export. In particular, the new terminal in Izmail is being built by “Nibulon”; agroholding “Kernel” acquired the river terminal “Danube Prom Agro” in the port of Reni; UDS, Asket-Shipping, Danube Logistics Group, etc. are developing infrastructure on the Danube.
In addition, earlier, the head of the Ministry of Reconstruction Oleksandr Kubrakov spoke about the first results of the launch of additional port capacities on the Danube, in particular:
• operation of more than 20 new sea terminals;
• new transshipment technologies using floating cranes, mobile transloaders, storage vessels as floating warehouses, and other means;
• use of new temporary warehouses equipped with scales and laboratories.
