On Tuesday, June 27, Taiwan detected two Russian ships near its east coast.
Taiwan sent its planes and navy to monitor the Russian ships, Reuters reported with reference to Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense.
The department said that two frigates passed in a northerly direction from the east coast of Taiwan. After that, they left the “response zone” and went to the southeast of the port city of Suao, where the main base of the Autonomous Navy is located.
Taiwan’s military has activated shore-based missile systems.
Also on Tuesday, Russia reported that a detachment of ships of the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Federation entered the southern regions of the Philippine Sea “to perform tasks within the framework of a long-distance sea crossing.”
USM previously reported that the Taiwanese Navy ordered the construction of two 2,500-ton ASW and AAW frigates. In the future, they should become a series of 12 ships.
Taiwan will also purchase about 400 Harpoon land-based anti-ship missiles from the US to repel potential attacks from China. Previously, Taiwan had already purchased ship-based versions of the Harpoon, which are manufactured by Boeing Co.
