USPA: since the beginning of the war, the Russians have attacked Ukrainian ports 139 times

Russian strikes have already destroyed and damaged 215 port infrastructure facilities.

This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, Dmytro Barinov, in an interview with NV Business.

According to him, since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, 139 attacks by missiles and UAVs have been carried out on ports. 215 objects were damaged, 153 vehicles and 8 civilian vessels were destroyed.

“95% of all global world trade takes place by sea. Not by plane, not by car, not by rail. We produce many agricultural products, many products of the mining and metallurgical industry. Ports are needed to get all this out. One large ship, not even the largest, 100,000 tons, is like 5,000 trucks, and they have 5,000 drivers,” said Barinov.

He also reminded that before the war there were 18 ports in Ukraine.

“They occupied five in Crimea. Then, from the beginning of the full-scale aggression, four more: Mariupol, Berdyanskyi, Kherson and Skadovsk. But we won back Kherson. “Unfortunately, we cannot use the Mykolaiv region now, because military operations are very close there,” Dmytro Barinov emphasized.

The deputy head of the Ukrainian Academy of Medical Sciences noted that Russian attacks on Odesa and the region occur almost every night, since the ports are of exceptional importance for the economy of Ukraine.

We will remind, on April 19, the occupiers hit two grain terminals in the “Pivdenny” port. As a result of the attack, the grain, which was intended for export to the countries of Asia and Africa, was destroyed.
