USDA: Ukraine will remain the leading exporter of processed sunflower products

Despite the reduction in wheat exports, the sunflower harvest in Ukraine this season will increase by 200,000 tons.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) forecasts the harvest of Ukrainian sunflower at the level of 14.7 million tons during 2024/25 MY. This is stated in the USDA report for May 10, Latifundist writes.

The harvest in the current season will be 200,000 tons more than last year. However, the volumes of agricultural processing will slightly decrease – due to smaller volumes of transitional residues.

Production of sunflower oil in Ukraine is forecast at 6.1 million tons — 170,000 tons less than in the previous season. Ukraine will probably be able to produce 5.9 million tons of sunflower meal, which is 165,000 tons less than last year.

Despite the decline in processing volumes, Ukraine is expected to remain the world’s largest exporter of both sunflower meal and oil, accounting for almost half of global exports.

At the same time, the USDA predicts a decrease in the export of Ukrainian grain, in particular, wheat.
