UDS sent three more vessels to Austria for modernization (video)
The motor ships went to the Austrian ÖSWAG shipyard in Linz in a caravan consisting of three self-propelled vessels and three barges.
The vessels of the “Kapitan Antypov”series will have to cover a distance of more than two thousand kilometers (from Izmail to Linz), the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company said.
“The passage of vessels over such a huge distance is a considerable expense. However, we found really effective logistics solutions, and the costs were compensated,” the company reported.
The vessels were sent to ÖSWAG as part of a 3+3 caravan (three self-propelled vessels and three barges). In Izmail, the caravan was loaded with raw iron ore (9 thousand tons). Unloading will take place in Smederevo (Serbia).
After that, the caravan will head to Austria in three ships.
It should be noted that the caravan is led by Captain Serhii Pavlyuchenko, who has been working on the “Captain Shirkov” motor ship for the 28th year. According to him, since April last year, the vessel has been in a forced lay-by. Modernization became a chance to give “Shirkova” a second life.
We will remind you that on July 2, the first of two main engines was installed on the steamship “Kapitan Antypov” at the Austrian shipyard ÖSWAG.
