Georgia and Bulgaria are resuming rail and ferry connections

The railway ferry service between Bulgaria and Georgia will be restored in the coming months.

The agreement was concluded during a meeting in the city of Sofia, Georgian Railways reports.

The railway management arranged a meeting between the Georgian shipping company “Sea Line E60” and the Bulgarian Railways.

Preparatory work on the restoration of the ferry service has been underway since the beginning of the year.

“The parties have agreed on all terms of cooperation regarding the restoration of the normal functioning of the railway ferry. In the near future, the ferry service between the ports of Georgia and the Bulgarian Varna will be restored. Transportation will be provided by the Aia railway ferry flying under the Georgian flag,” the message reads.

In particular, it will make it possible to strengthen direct transport links with Europe through the Black Sea.

“Georgian and Bulgarian railways will regularly carry out cargo transportation with the help of specially equipped railway ferries,” the company said.

It is assumed that thanks to transportation, additional cargo flows will be attracted.
