Ukraine called on the IMO to send an international monitoring mission to the ports of Odesa
Ukraine called on the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to immediately send an international monitoring mission to the ports of Odesa.
On October 16, Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiga held talks with colleagues from the Nordic-Baltic Eight countries in Odesa, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported.
The visit of the heads of diplomacy of the Northern European and Baltic states to Odesa took place in the context of the negotiations between the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the leaders of the Nordic-Baltic Eight.
In particular, the diplomats held a separate meeting with the leading exporters of agricultural products, who spoke about the strengthening of Russian aerial terror against Ukrainian farmers, the agricultural industry and port infrastructure.
Andrii Sybiga drew the attention of his colleagues to the significant increase in Russian attacks on civilian ships, grain storage facilities, terminals and other port infrastructure.
The minister emphasized that Ukraine remains a reliable partner and guarantor of global food security even in war conditions and called on allies to support Ukrainian farmers.
In this context, Andrii Sybiga reported that Ukraine has officially appealed to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) with a call to urgently send an international monitoring mission to the ports of Great Odesa against the background of intensified Russian terror.
“Ensuring freedom of navigation in the Black Sea is our common goal and one of the key priorities of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. We must stop the aggressor, show the unity of the international community in opposing his barbarism, and record every crime,” the minister said.
