Ukraine officially joined the International Fund for Rural Development

Ukraine became the 179th member country of the International Fund for Rural Development (IFAD).

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

IFAD is the only UN agency fully focused on the transformation of agriculture, rural economic development and food systems.

“After the last working meeting with IFAD representatives in Rome, we managed to become the 179th member country. Membership in IFAD gives Ukraine new opportunities and prospects that will contribute to the development of the agricultural sector as a whole,” stressed the Minister of Agrarian Policy Vitaliy Koval.

According to him, IFAD’s priority is the development of small farming. The fund’s support will allow Ukrainian producers to increase their competitiveness, strengthen their position on the market, and affect the development of the country’s agricultural sector in general.

Also, Ukrainian manufacturers will have access to inexpensive financial resources, grant support, participation in tenders of the Fund for the purchase of goods and services, and investments to support sustainable development.

In addition, joining the Fund will contribute to investments in the development of infrastructure in rural areas and in technologies that help adapt to climate change, which is critical for Ukrainian farmers working in the south of our country.

It will be recalled that the Ministry of Agrarian Policy announced that Ukraine supplies food for 600 million people in the world.
