White House: Ukraine, US and Russia agree on security in the Black Sea


During the talks in Riyadh, the US delegation agreed with representatives of Ukraine and Russia to prevent attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea.

According to reports, the United States and Ukraine agreed to ensure the safety of shipping, exclude the use of force, and prevent the use of commercial vessels for military purposes in the Black Sea. The United States reached a similar agreement during the talks with the Russians.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustam Umerov also commented on the talks in Riyadh.

“This meeting is a logical continuation of the successful consultations with the US in Jeddah. No one wants a just peace more than Ukrainians, our position remains honest, transparent, and consistent,” he wrote on Facebook.

The minister named the key results, in particular, that all parties agreed to ensure safe navigation (shipping), stop the use of force, and prevent the use of commercial vessels for military purposes in the Black Sea.

Separately, the Ukrainian side stressed that the movement of Russia’s military vessels beyond the Eastern Black Sea “will be considered a violation of the spirit of this agreement and will be considered a violation of obligations to ensure freedom of navigation in the Black Sea and a threat to the national security of Ukraine.”

“In such a case, Ukraine will have the full right to exercise the right to self-defense,” Umerov stressed.

All parties also agreed to implement the agreements of the presidents on a complete ban on attacks on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine and Russia.
