US preparing for tough sanctions against Russia and its oil buyers — Graham

The sanctions package provides for a 500% tariff on imports from countries that purchase Russian oil, gas or uranium.

The US Senate may soon adopt one of the toughest sanctions bills against Russia and its key economic partners – China and India. This was announced by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham on the social network X.

According to him, the document provides for a 500% tariff on imports from any country that buys Russian energy resources, thereby “financing Putin’s war machine”. In particular, Chinese and Indian companies that purchase oil, gas or uranium from Russia may be hit.

“It is time to change the rules of the game regarding Putin and those who support his war,” Graham stressed. The bill, initiated by him, already has more than 80 co-authors in the Senate and is considered a powerful tool for economic pressure.

US President Donald Trump confirmed to reporters that he is familiar with Graham’s initiative and is “studying it in detail.” According to media reports, the bill may be put to a vote in the coming days after a political signal from the White House.

Republicans emphasize that the sanctions response should be not only against Russia, but also against the global network of buyers of its energy resources, which ensure the financial stability of the Kremlin regime.

The day before, USM wrote that the EU is close to adopting a new package of sanctions against Russia.
